Dansoman Market Fire: MP, MCE Step In as Community Mourns 8-Year-Old Victim
JHNews || Authorities continue probing the cause of the Dansoman Market fire as support is extended to affected families and traders.
Ghana, November 26, 2025 — The Ablekuma West Member of Parliament, Rev. Kweku Addo, has visited the mother of Priscilla, the eight-year-old girl who died in the devastating dawn fire at the Dansoman Market, consoling the family and assuring them of his full support as investigations continue.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the child was trapped inside one of the affected shops when the fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday. Fire officers were unable to reach her in time, and her severely burnt body has since been handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
Dansoman Market Manager, Jonathan Kotoko, attributed the tragedy to what he described as the mother’s negligence, stressing that sleeping in market shops is strictly prohibited. He added that the tinted glass entrance of the salon made it nearly impossible for rescuers to know anyone was inside.
Ablekuma West MCE, George Kpakpo Allotey, has also assured traders affected by the inferno of support from the Municipal Assembly. He commended the GNFS for their swift response, which prevented the fire from spreading further. Fire officers are still assessing the full extent of damage.
