PRESIDENT MAHAMA REVOCATION OF APPOINTMENTS
First day in office, President John Mahama has revoked the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across Ghana, effective immediately. This decision, announced on January 8, 2025, is in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).
The revocation also extends to all Assembly Members appointed under the relevant sections of the Act. Coordinating Directors of the respective MMDAs have been directed to step in as acting chief executives until new appointments are made.
This move is seen as a significant development in Mahama's presidency, which began just a day ago. The decision is likely to have immediate impacts on local government operations and has already generated considerable public and political interest.
