JHNews || Accra, September 9, 2025 — A major fire outbreak at Lartebiokorshie in Accra on Tuesday afternoon has left at least seven houses destroyed and one firefighter injured, sparking panic among residents as security agencies race to contain the blaze.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started shortly before 4 p.m., quickly spreading to multiple buildings, including a warehouse. Residents watched in despair as flames consumed homes and businesses.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed four fire tenders to the scene, with personnel battling for hours to bring the inferno under control. However, Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander admitted that efforts were hampered by water supply challenges, though he assured the public that the fire had been “confined” and urged calm.
Despite the response, Assemblyman Muntari Wahab expressed concern that the available resources were insufficient, calling for urgent reinforcements. Similarly, Mohammed, Deputy NADMO Director for Ablekuma Central, acknowledged the efforts of firefighters but admitted “the fire is too much” and required additional support.
The injured firefighter has been taken for medical care, while displaced residents are being assisted by NADMO and local authorities. Security personnel have cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties.
