The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has announced a major government initiative to deploy 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science across the country. The move, she explained, is part of efforts to bridge the gap between research and practical application in Ghana’s agricultural sector and to enhance productivity among farmers.

The announcement was made during the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival (Asogli Te Za) held in the Volta Region on October 4, 2025, under the theme “Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation.”

Speaking at the grand durbar marking the climax of the festival, the Vice President emphasized government’s renewed commitment to reducing post-harvest losses and promoting food security through the Feed Ghana Programme. She noted that the Volta Region holds immense potential to become Ghana’s agricultural powerhouse, especially in rice and yam production.

“The Volta Region has underutilized irrigation systems ready for rehabilitation. With proper support, it can become our agricultural backbone,” she remarked.

The festival, which began on July 14 and ended on October 5, celebrated the Asogli people’s cultural heritage through vibrant traditional displays, music, and dance. It also served as a platform to promote unity, tourism, and investment in the region.
