Hon. Kenneth Adjei Inaugurates Ghana Water Company Board, Urges Bold Reforms and Strategic Leadership

This morning, the sector Minister, Hon Kenneth Gilbert Adjei inaugurated the governing Board of the Ghana Water Company with a call on the Board  to steer the company from a position of perceived inefficiency and bureaucratic inertia to one of dynamic innovation and admired competence.

As a country that is undergoing a rapid transformation, with a population that now exceeds 32 million and with more than 56% of population living in urban areas, the pressure on urban water supply systems is greater than ever before.

That nonetheless, the sector Minister believes the new Board has what it takes to surmount the numerous challenges ranging from aging infrastructure, high levels of non-revenue water (NRW), limited capital investment, poor source water quality, low revenue collection, illegal connections, operational inefficiencies, climate and security risks bedevilling urban water supply. 

The Minister also reminded the Board to eschew the day-to-day administration of the company, and rather provide strategic direction, oversight and independence required to uphold accountability to safeguard the public interest.

" Let there be mutual respect. Let there be alignment in vision. Let there be collaboration in execution. But above all, let there be a shared commitment to service and to delivering water not just as a commodity, but as a human right and a sacred trust."

 Hon Kenneth Adjei assured of the Ministry's commitment to provide the enabling policy environment to for a productive and impactful tenure.

The Board has Eric Biliguo as the Chairman. The other members are Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, Dr Hadisu Alhassan, Prof. Afishata Mohammed AbuJaja, Abu Mahama. The rest are Alhaji ibrahim Abdul-Jalil, Nutsu Agbesi, Mathias Ntow, Prof. Jasper Ayelazuno.
