HON. MINISTER MEETS WITH THE LEADERSHIP OF THE GHANA NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF QUEENMOTHERS

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts met with the Ghana National Association of Queenmothers, also known as the Unity Queens in Accra, on Wednesday, 13th March 2025, at the National Theatre of Ghana.

The meeting was held at the instance of the Queenmothers to discuss issues of women’s empowerment, growth, development, and violence against women and to also welcome her into office.

In a statement, the Hon. Minister said Queenmothers had, over the years, demonstrated commitment and resilience in helping to advocate for an end to female genital mutilation, child marriage and removal of taxes on sanitary pads, among others, through their platforms.

As a member of the Association of Queenmothers, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie said that the association aims to use their vehicle to communicate and disseminate information among the people in their various communities.

She said that using our rich culture as a country, queen mothers can help transform the tourism landscape with products that promote Ghana locally and internationally.

She therefore encouraged them to pass on the traditions and culture to the younger generation. She, on her part, promised to collaborate with the Chietaincy, Education and Local Government ministries to empower the Queenmothers to promote women and girls in business and education.

Nana Adjoa Akyaa Awindor, founder of the Ghana National Association of Queenmothers commended Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie for her support over the years and on her appointment as Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

She reiterated the important role played by the association in shaping the local landscape through advocating for critical issues affecting children and women in areas such as child marriage, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, human trafficking and menstrual hygiene, among others.

She concluded by pledging their commitment to championing the socio-economic development and financial empowerment of their communities while ensuring that the traditions and culture remain relevant and dynamic in our nation.
