Mahama Extends IGP Tetteh Yohuno’s Tenure by Two Years
Accra, Ghana — November 25, 2025:
President John Dramani Mahama has approved the re-engagement of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno for an additional two-year term beginning 28th December 2025, according to an official letter from the Office of the President.
The renewal, recommended by the Police Council, allows the IGP to continue serving beyond the statutory retirement age, which he is due to reach in December 2025.
The Presidency stated that the decision reflects strong confidence in Mr. Yohuno’s leadership, particularly in sustaining police reforms, improving operational effectiveness, and maintaining stability within the Ghana Police Service during what it described as “a critical period.”
The IGP has been asked to formally confirm his acceptance of the re-engagement within three days of receiving the notice.
The letter, signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, has also been copied to the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, and the Interior Minister.
