Scrap Dealer Jailed 3 Months for Stealing Metal Parts in Kumasi

Presided over by Jephthah Appau, the court found Zakari guilty after a full trial despite his plea of not guilty. The incident occurred on January 13, 2025, when the convict was caught carrying a sack of four metal bracings in front of a shop.

Zakari claimed he bought the items from two unidentified men but failed to provide proof of purchase or lead police to the alleged sellers. Officers later recovered additional items from his possession, including a frying pan, cutlass, metal bracings, pinch bar, hammer, fan parts, and iron rods.

The brief custodial sentence, according to the court, is intended to serve as a deterrent to petty theft in the metropolis and reinforce public accountability.
