Police in the Central Region have confirmed that Yaw Afriyie, the man who set his wife, five children, and a grandchild ablaze in a horrific domestic incident, had long harbored suspicions of infidelity against his wife before committing the act.

According to preliminary police investigations, Afriyie locked his family inside their room at Buduburam before setting the house on fire in the early hours of Friday. The inferno claimed all seven lives instantly.

Neighbors told police that the suspect had accused his wife of cheating multiple times and threatened violence in recent weeks. After the gruesome act, Afriyie was later found hanging on a tree near the crime scene, suggesting he took his own life.

The Ghana Police Service and National Fire Service are jointly investigating the matter, while social welfare officers have been deployed to provide trauma counseling to affected relatives and neighbors.

Authorities describe the incident as one of the deadliest domestic violence cases in recent Ghanaian history.
