Ghana’s Foreign Ministry Announces Burkina Faso’s Ban on Grain Exports

Accra, February 25, 2025 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that Burkina Faso has imposed a ban on the export of key grains and cereals from its territory. The affected commodities include rice, millet, maize, sorghum, and white beans (cowpea).

According to a communique from Burkina Faso dated December 19, 2023, the ban remains in effect, restricting the movement of these food products outside the country. A previous notice issued on November 13, 2024, reaffirmed the restriction and warned buyers that it is still in place.

Ghanaian traders and businesses involved in importing grains from Burkina Faso have been advised to comply with the directive to avoid potential sanctions or trade disruptions.

The Ministry has urged all stakeholders to take note of the situation and act accordingly.
