JHNews || Accra, September 2025 — Ghana is mourning the loss of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, the celebrated man of God, industrialist, and technological innovator affectionately known as “Kantanka, the African Star.”
The Sato family and the Kristo Asafo Church confirmed in a statement that Apostle Safo died peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, citing Romans 14:8: “For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.” He was 77.
Born on August 26, 1948, in Bekwai, Ashanti Region, Safo was a pastor, inventor, and entrepreneur whose influence spanned religion, technology, agriculture, and philanthropy. He founded Kantanka Automobile, a pioneering Ghana-based automotive company, and the Kristo Asafo Mission, which blended faith and industrial innovation.
Under his leadership, Kantanka Automobile introduced vehicles such as the Omama SUV and Onantefo pickup, designed and built for African markets, earning him recognition as a champion of local manufacturing and technological self-reliance.
Safo’s decades-long ministry and industrial work inspired generations to believe in Ghanaian ingenuity and African solutions to African challenges.
