DEFENCE MINISTRY OWES 3.7 BILLION CEDIS TO FOOD SUPPLIERS- DR. OMANE BOAMAH REVEALS
Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has revealed that the defence ministry owes about 3.7 billion cedis.
Commenting on the budget statement on the floor of parliament on friday, the defence minister said apart from the food suplies, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah says the ghana armed forces is grappling with debt crises with food suppliers threatening to withdraw their services owing to outstanding payments of 275 million cedis for 17 months ago food suppliers and as cost of equipment amongst others.
The Minister is therefore calling for swift action to address this crisis due to the delicate nature of the ministry.
Highlighting the urgency of the food supply crisis, he stressed the importance of sustaining military personnel and ensuring their welfare is well catered for.
However, food suppliers have even threatened to halt supplies to the Ghana Armed Forces due to government’s indebtedness he added.
