Kumasi High Court Rejects Application by Akosua Serwaa, Rules Both Women Are Surviving Spouses of Daddy Lumba
JHNews || A Kumasi High Court has dismissed Akosua Serwaa’s attempt to be declared the sole surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba, ruling that both she and Odo Broni are recognised as surviving spouses. The family head has been ordered to permit both women to perform all widowhood rites.
Kumasi, Ashanti Region — November 27, 2025: The Kumasi High Court has dismissed an application filed by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who sought a declaration affirming her as the sole surviving spouse of the late highlife icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In its ruling, the Court rejected her request and instead determined that both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, qualify as surviving spouses under the law.
The Court subsequently ordered the head of the late musician’s extended family, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, to allow both women to participate fully in the widowhood rites and all associated funeral traditions.
This ruling follows weeks of legal tension surrounding the organisation of Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites, scheduled for December.
